Reusing glass jars means solving every link in the loop: adapting the packaging, building the product range, setting up separate collection, dedicated reverse logistics, washing and resale to producers.
Objective
To establish a regional reuse value chain for glass jars by rolling out a pilot that brings together regional producers and local stores.
Outcomes
- 10 regional brands and 4 retailers on board to date
- Producer labels adapted for reuse
- Jar reuse certification obtained with a national technical centre
- Design of an appealing customer return scheme and rollout of a monetary deposit
- Support from regional institutions to develop the washing facility
